Dennis Daugaard today announced that the state will partner with Dakota & Iowa Railroad to invest $7.3 million to upgrade the Sioux Valley Line in southeast South Dakota. “I want to thank Dakota & Iowa Railroad for making this project a possibility,” said Gov. Daugaard. D & I Railroad is a wholly-owned subsidiary of L. G. Everist, Inc., owners of one of the largest privately-owned fleets of railroad equipment of any aggregate producer in North America. The D & I operates from Dell Rapids, SD to Sioux City, IA on company controlled track and via trackage rights with BNSF Railway.The line runs from Del Rapids, South Dakota to Sioux City,Iowa. The state of South Dakota bought the line and the Miwaukee Road bankrupcy so grain could be shipped from the south east part of the state. They are in the process of selling the line to BNSF.
