It's simple, really. The overwhelming majority of Uniden scanners are sold and used in North America. That is what determines the system types and features. TETRA is a niche system type in North America, whereas ProVoice (EDACS) was fairly widespread, and still is to some degree.SDS100 is a good radio if you can find one available, the SDS radios are the only consumer scanners that are successful with simulcast Distortion secondary to LSM. They work great on simulcast systems while other radios will have difficulties. Normally, they should last a least a few weeks to a few months if the main battery is dead. If the main battery is dead I've had mine work fine 6mo+ later. I soldered wires to the three pins on the USB plug first and then soldered the 3 different sets of wires to the leads. Solder the bare wires together. The headphone jack on the sds100 has the lowest output of any scanner I have ever had. I have had lots of scanners in my time. The old scanners worked fine with a amplified speaker plugged in the headphone jack. Arrived on time, in new condition, all was well. Functionality of this scanner is fantastic. Programming is a breeze. Handles simulcast better than any other scanner out there.
